Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP) is published by the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Lilian G. Katz and Dr. Jean Mendoza are the editors. Laurel Preece is managing editor.

Scope

Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP), an Internet-only journal, features articles related to the development, care, and education of children from birth to approximately age 8.

ECRP emphasizes articles on

  • practice-related research and development
  • issues related to practice, parent participation, and policy
  • emerging practices and issues

ECRP may also contain

  • letters to the editor
  • opinions and reflections on topics related to the scope of the journal

Language

Beginning with the spring 2004 issue (Volume 6, Number 1), Early Childhood Research & Practice is a fully bilingual journal, with all articles published in both English and Spanish. Submissions are reviewed in their original language, and accepted articles are subsequently translated into the other language. Prior to the spring 2004 issue, some articles were made available in Spanish as well as English.

Audience

Early Childhood Research & Practice is intended for researchers, teacher educators, program planners, policy makers and decision makers, administrators, practitioners, and parents. The focus is on applied research, or on research with practical implications; each issue typically contains at least one article by an early childhood practitioner. The focus of the journal is on the nature and improvement of practice.

Subscription Information

Published twice annually, Early Childhood Research & Practice is available on the Internet without charge; no subscription is necessary at this time.

Submissions

Work submitted to Early Childhood Research & Practice should be original and not previously published in another journal. Articles will undergo blind review, will be returned to the author if revisions are suggested, and will be copyedited and proofread in-house at the Clearinghouse on Early Education and Parenting (CEEP).

Articles must meet author guidelines. Submissions are currently being accepted for the journal.

Copyright

CEEP does not request copyright to articles in Early Childhood Research & Practice. Although authors retain copyright, CEEP does request first serial publication rights and requires that authors sign release forms granting CEEP the right to publish the article in ECRP (ECRP Release Form).
